In most cases, overweight is caused by overeating. Sometimes, overeating may be a case due to emotional eating. Any case it may be, overeating should be avoided. While you are continuing a weight loss plan, you should check your eating quantity and quality of foods you eat. Overeating leads to obesity, life threatening diseases and premature death. So, you should understand what causes you overeating and how to avoid overeating.
To make easy for you, let’s learn about two kinds of foods – Caloric foods and nutritious foods. Caloric foods are the foods containing carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Most often they are known as junk foods. Nutritious foods are the foods containing vital nutrients like vitamins, minerals, fibers and phytochemicals. So, if a food contains more nutrients than calorie, the food is a good food. Nutrient rich foods are essential to keep our body healthy, disease free and long live. Our body needs those nutrients to keep itself fit physically and mentally. If the nutrients are low in your food intake, the body calls you to eat more. On the other hand, high caloric foods won’t make lessen your hunger. You’ll feel to eat more and more until your stomach is filled up with nutrient rich foods and fibers. So, it indicates that overeating is caused due to the intake of high caloric foods.
Now, eat nutrient rich foods and fibers and try to fill up the stomach. It automatically reduce the caloric food intake. It will satisfy your appetite. It leads to good health and weight loss. Scientific studies show the brain sends signals to eat more even though the stomach is already filled up with caloric foods. But you won’t feel hungry if your stomach is filled up with nutrient foods and fibers since it is biochemically filled (by nutrients) and mechanically filled (by fibers).
Let’s see an example. Take two whole apple fruits and apple juice containing the same calorie amount in both. Ask a person to eat the two whole apple fruits and ask another person to drink the apple juice. Then, after a few minutes ask the level of hunger that feels to each of them. I am sure the person who who ate two apples will say less hungry than the person who drank the apple juice. That’s why people who eat high caloric foods eat more and more (overeat). But people who eat nutrient foods and fibers eat less and still they can keep their health fit. In short, nutrients and fiber contents in foods decrease appetite, promote health and weight loss. But high caloric foods make you overeat, promote health problems and weight gain.
From the above example, we know that we need to eat quality foods with high nutrients and fibers. Any concept of magic pill for overall health fails here. It means there is no magic pill for weight loss. If you come across a weight loss pill sometimes, you may get some help with it in your strategy, but it alone can’t do all for you in your weight loss journey. If you want to lose your weight, eat unrefined foods containing rich nutrients and fibers. Avoid refined foods and drinks as often as possible as they were missing most of nutrients and fibers in the refining process.
